- Currently, read() returns EINTR due to a bug if signal handler
is SIG_DFL and the process is suspended by Ctrl-Z and restarted.
This patch fixes the issue.
- Currently, console read() keeps reading after SIGWINCH is sent
even if SA_RESTART flag is not set. With this patch, read()
returns EINTR on SIGWINCH if SA_RESTART flag is not set.
The same problem for SIGQUIT and SIGTSTP has also been fixed.
This patch has been inspired by the Linux kernel patch
294f69e662d1 compiler_attributes.h: Add 'fallthrough' pseudo keyword for switch/case use
written by Joe Perches <joe AT perches DOT com> based on an idea from
Dan Carpenter <dan DOT carpenter AT oracle DOT com>. The following text
is from the original log message:
Reserve the pseudo keyword 'fallthrough' for the ability to convert the
various case block /* fallthrough */ style comments to appear to be an
actual reserved word with the same gcc case block missing fallthrough
warning capability.
All switch/case blocks now should end in one of:
break;
fallthrough;
goto <label>;
return [expression];
continue;
In C mode, GCC supports the __fallthrough__ attribute since 7.1,
the same time the warning and the comment parsing were introduced.
Cygwin-only: add an explicit -Wimplicit-fallthrough=5 to the build
flags.
- Return value of eat_readahead() is redefined. The return values
of fhandler_termios::eat_readahead() and fhandler_pty_slave::
eat_readahead() were little bit different. This patch unifies
them to number of bytes eaten by eat_readahead().
- Considerration for raixget() is added to fhandler_pty_master::
accept_input() code.
- Transfering contents of read ahead buffer in
fhandler_pty_master::transfer_input_to_pcon() is removed since
it is not necessary.
- fhandler_pty_slave::eat_readahead() ckecks EOL only when ICANON
is set.
- Guard for _POSIX_VDISABLE is added in checking EOL.
- The cause of the problem reported in
https://www.cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2020-01/msg00220.html is that the
chars input before dup() cannot be read from the new file descriptor.
This is because the readahead buffer (rabuf) in the console is newly
created by dup(), and does not inherit from the parent. This patch
fixes the issue.
Return -1 with EINVAL if pgid < 0.
Previously tcsetpgrp() would blindly go ahead and set the pgid of the
controlling terminal to a negative value, causing later calls to
various functions to fail.
For example, gdb has code like the following:
tcsetpgrp (0, getpgid (inf->pid));
If getpgid (inf->pid) fails (returns -1), then this code would set the
pgid of fd 0 to -1, so that some later calls to getpgid() would also
return -1. This caused the problem reported here:
https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2019-07/msg00166.html.
The termios code doesn't handle erasing of multibyte characters
in canonical mode, it always erases a single byte. When entering
a multibyte character and then pressing VERASE, the input ends up
with an invalid character.
Following Linux we introduce the IUTF8 input flag now, set by
default. When this flag is set, VERASE or VWERASE will check
if the just erased input byte is a UTF-8 continuation byte. If
so, it erases another byte and checks again until the entire
UTF-8 character has been removed from the input buffer.
Note that this (just as on Linux) does NOT work with arbitrary
multibyte codesets. This only works with UTF-8.
For a discussion what happens, see
https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2017-01/msg00299.html
Sidenote: The eat_readahead function is now member of fhandler_termios,
not fhandler_base. That's necessary to get access to the terminal's
termios flags.

SIGTTIN should be raised when read() is made on a tty in a backgrounded
process, but not when it's tested with poll()/select().
I guess poll()/select() does need to call bg_check(), in order to detect the
error conditions that notices (that is, if bg_check() returns bg_eof or
bg_error, then fd is ready as an error condition exists) so add an optional
parameter to fhandler_base::bg_select() to indicate that signals aren't
desired.
